The SACU is firmly committed to the underlying principles of equality and diversity.
The SACU believes that every person who wants to take part in the sport should be able to do so, regardless of their age, gender reassignment, disability, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, religion, race, sex, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status.
The SACU believes that its members and supporters should be free from any form of discrimination whether verbal, physical or mental. We believe that our members should be able to progress through our sport without encountering unwanted behaviour such as bullying, harassment, intimidation or any other form of abusive treatment.
The SACU will strive to ensure that perpetrators of such behaviour will be brought to question and held to account. In supporting this policy we believe that we will make our sport truly diverse and welcoming to all. We would like to assure all our members that we are truly committed to these principles and will strive to uphold this philosophy.
Policy Statement
The Board of Directors of the SACU fully endorses the principle of sports equality and will strive to ensure that everyone who wishes to be involved in motorcycle sport at all levels:
Has a genuine and equal opportunity to participate to the full extent of their own ambitions and abilities, without regard to their age, gender reassignment, disability, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, religion, race, sex, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status; and can be assured of an environment in which their rights, dignity and individual worth are respected, and in particular that they are able to enjoy their sport without the threat of intimidation, victimisation, harassment or abuse.
What is Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)?
sportscotland, that National agency for sport, define Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Equity as:
- EQUALITY - "Equality is about ensuring that every individual has an equal opportunity to make the most of their lives and talents. It is also the belief that no one should have poorer life chances because of the way they were born, where they come from, what they believe, or whether they have a disability. Equality recognises that historically certain groups of people with protected characteristics such as race, disability, sex and sexual orientation have experienced discrimination."
- DIVERSITY - "Diversity is all the visible and non-visible ways in which we differ. This includes the categories protected by law (age, disability, gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation), as well as socio-economic background and ways of thinking."
- INCLUSION - "Inclusion is about integrating diversity in what we do. It means being treated fairly and with respect, and having a voice in decision-making. It's about feeling both valued for your uniqueness and also a sense of belonging."
- EQUITY - "Equity is about giving people what they need, in order to make things fair. This is not the same as equality or inequality. It is supporting those who need it in a way that is proportionate to their circumstances. We would do this to ensure that everyone has the same opportunities."
